Glassmakers' House Neuglobsow
The glassmaker's house, which is over two hundred years old, now houses the Stechlin Tourist Information Centre as well as the exhibition "Twelve Stories of Glass". Visitors embark on a journey through time and let the ancient craft of glass blowing flare up! The stories tell of the glassworks boss Madame Pirl, of the founding of Neuglobsow, about the life and hard work of the glassmakers.
Fontane described the glassworks in his novel "Der Stechlin" as follows: ... "This is Globsow Colony. That's where the glassblowers live. And behind it is the glassworks. It was built under the old Fritzen and is called the green glassworks. The green one? That almost sounds like something out of a fairy tale. But it's actually quite the opposite. It's called that because they make green glass, the most unusual bottle glass. You mustn't think of ruby glass with gold rims here. That's not for our region"...
Today, so-called forest glass has become rare. The museum shop sells books, maps, regional items and selected green glass rarities. Children also get their money's worth in the glassmaker's house! There are primers, a storytelling station and a lovingly designed marble run. The house is barrier-free.
Over 112 objects from the exhibition and from the archive have been digitized and can be discovered at www.museum-digital.de.
