Theodor Fontane

The native of Neuruppin (1819 to 1898) set a monument to Lake Stechlin in his novel and to the region in the "Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg" like no other.

Fontane visited Neuglobsow for the first time in 1873. Further visits followed in 1874 and 1893. In 1897, "Der Stechlin" was published as a preprint, which tells the fictional story of a family but describes the real Neuglobsow. Even today, visitors walk in Fontane's footsteps through the region.

The 200th birthday in 2019 will be celebrated nationwide with various events and activities. The Museum Neuruppin is dedicated in detail to the city's famous son.

More information is available on the website of the Theodor Fontane Society Neuruppin.
