Dr Ernst Urbahn
The natural scientist was a Zehdenicker through and through, was born in the Havel city in 1888 and died here in 1983. His passion was butterflies. He wrote about 180 publications in his field of entomology. Urbahn discovered five butterfly species and gained an international reputation for his research in this field. His collection is now housed in the Natural History Museum in Berlin.
Those who attended the old town school on Kirchplatz after the war may have known Dr. Ernst Urbahn as headmaster; he worked here until 1954. Memorial plaques on his birthplace (Dammhaststraße) as well as on his residence (Poststraße 14) commemorate him and his wife Herta. His grave is located in the old cemetery on Friedhofstraße.
