Armin T. Wegner
Born in Elberfeld (1886 to 1978), he was not only active as a writer, but also made a name for himself as a human rights activist. In 1915, he had personally witnessed the expulsion of the Armenians by the Turks as a medical officer. In 1933, he protested against the persecution of Jews in an open letter to Hitler. Wegner was arrested and sent to the Oranienburg concentration camp, among other places.
He had already moved to Neuglobsow in 1920 with his fellow writer Lola Landau and spent five carefree years here. In 1956 Wegner was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and he died in Rome in 1978. Their home ("House of the Seven Woods") was immortalised in the booklet of the same name, available at the Stechlin Tourist Information.
