Cistercian Monastery Ruins Himmelpfort
The Cistercian monastery of Himmelpfort was founded in 1299. "Coeli porta!" - Himmelspforte (Heaven's Gate) is what Brother Otto is said to have called out in 1299 when he was able to look down from a hill at the beautiful landscape that met his gaze on the narrow tongue of land between Lakes Stolp, Haus, Moderfitz and Sidow in what is now Himmelpfort. A place far away from world events, from major traffic roads, quite suitable to accommodate people in need of recreation.
All that remains from this time are the outer walls of the monastery church. A new monastery church was built in the outer walls in 1663. Some concerts are held in the monastery church and in the interior of the ruins during the summer months.
In addition to the monastery herb garden (with sales offer), which has been in operation since 1997, and the imparting of knowledge about the cultivation of herbs, since 1999 there has also been the converted community centre into the "House of the Guest", where, by the way, Father Christmas lives during the winter season.
