Accompany the Havel 397 km on its wonderful and varied way to the Elbe. Past chains of lakes, through forests and end moraine landscapes. In the midst of nature reserves, you can watch ospreys, which are native to this region. Impressions of industrial culture in harmony with the landscape are offered in the clay pond landscapes, at the Vosskanal or at the Gnevsdorfer Vorfluter. And of course, not to be forgotten: Prussian culture, evidence of which can be found all along the banks in the form of castles, residences and parks.

Length: 397 km (Brandenburg section 259 km)

Start: Havelquelle, accessible from Kratzeburg railway station - to the Havelquelle in the opposite direction another approx. 10 km, or Waren (Müritz) railway station - approx. 35 km to the Havelquelle, alsosignposted
Destination: Gnevsdorf

Arrival : From Berlin main station take the RE5 (Rostock) to Kratzeburg. Here either cycle towards Berlin or about 10 km in the opposite direction to start at the Havelquelle (about 1.5 h).

Departure: From Gnevsdorf cycle approx. 16 km on the Elbe cycle path to Wittenberge. From here there is an hourly RE2 service (Cottbus) to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (approx. 90 min).

Route: Wesenberg, Fürstenberg (Havel), Zehdenick, Liebenwalde, Oranienburg, Hennigsdorf, Potsdam, Werder (Havel), Brandenburg an der Havel, Rathenow, Hanseatic City of Havelberg, Gnevsdorf

Route condition / route development: In the Brandenburg district of Oberhavel, between Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the border with Berlin, the paths are in excellent condition and lead exclusively on asphalt cycle paths or quiet side roads. In Potsdam use of existing cycle paths, between Potsdam and Brandenburg an der Havel newly developed cycle path, between Brandenburg an der Havel and the Hanseatic city of Havelberg partly country road and roadside cycle paths.
