The Havel meanders picturesquely from Fürstenberg/Havel in the direction of Berlin. The bathing area, directly in front of the lock in the shipping village of Bredereiche, is ideal for a stop for water hikers. Depending on how you are traveling, there are moorings for houseboats, or paddleboats can be easily pulled out of the water on the shallow bank. Once here, you can both relax on the lawn or use the covered seating for some downtime. But it is also a good starting point to explore the tranquil village and its surroundings on foot. The village name "Bredereiche" is unique in Germany and probably comes from "Bredereyke", which roughly means "wide, thick oak". The landmark of the village, an ancient oak, can be found on the roadside between Bredereiche and Himmelpfort. Absolutely worth seeing is also the small church in typical Markish half-timbered construction from 1689. Inside, two hanging traditional ships of the skippers' association remind of Bredereiche's time as a skipper's village.
