Mildenberg village church
When you enter the massive fieldstone building of the church on the village green of Mildenberg, you find yourself in a brightly plastered church room decorated with blue colour accents. It radiates calm and contemplation as well as a certain solemnity. The church has been on this site since the 13th century, and was renovated in the 17th and 18th centuries. The curved tower roof had to be re-roofed several times - most recently in 1998 with natural slate, which replaced the cardboard shingles used during the previous renovation.
A jewel of the church is the wooden baptismal font, decorated with carved fruit vines. Only one of the window panes survived the last war: a painted pane from 1656 depicts St. Andrew. The organ comes from the workshop of W. Remler in Berlin and was completed in 1864. In 2006 it was restored by the organ-building firm Wolter from Dresden.
The church is a member of the "Open Church" initiative and can be visited. Information and keys are available at the parish office Mildenberger Dorfstraße 22, telephone 03307-2494.
