The three-nave late Gothic brick building was erected from 1220. Its valuable interior decoration includes the carved altar from around 1470 and an altarpiece from 1520. The organ from 1745 was the last work of the famous organ builder Joachim Wagner, a student of Gottfried Silbermann. Every year from April to October, the Gransee Summer Music Festival takes place in the large hall church.

A striking landmark of the town is the parish church of St. Mary with its two towers. It was built between the middle of the 13th century and 1520. The three-nave, seven-bay hall church made of brick has survived several fires and the 30 Years' War. "What distinguishes this church, which is surpassed by none in the county, even on the outside, is the rich use of the four-leaf clover," Fontane reports.

The two church towers are a special feature: one is made of wood, the other of stone. In the stone tower there are the "four bells with the harmonious ringing" as Fontane already said, visitors can climb this and look at the town from a new perspective.
