City Church Fürstenberg/Havel

The towering spire of the town church made of light-coloured brick is an eye-catcher in Fürstenberg/Havel. The striking building is visible far over the rooftops. After the predecessor church burnt down in 1807, today's new building was erected in its place. It was designed by Friedrich-Wilhelm Buttel, a student of Schinkel, and completed in 1848 in the Italian round arch style.

The impressive interior is characterised by dark wood and light-coloured walls. The coffers of the flat ceiling are painted with blue colour accents and star ornaments. The gallery runs along three sides of the church. The furnishings include a cup-shaped baptismal font in the style of classicism. The batik carpet from 1962 bears the title "Resurrection of Christ". The organ is from the Sauer company and dates from 1956.

The church is part of the "Open Church" initiative and is open all day from May to October, on Sundays only after the service. For information and enquiries about guided tours, call 033093-32535.
