Former Franciscan monastery Gransee

Around 1280, the Franciscans began to build a monastery in Gransee. For a long time, the monastery and its buildings shaped the townscape and town life. With the Reformation, the monastery was closed down. In 1561, the town received the monastery building with the stipulation that a school be set up here - teaching continued until 1963. Today, only remnants of the monastery remain. In one of the buildings, an exhibition provides insights into the successful urban redevelopment, and in summer, visitors like to use the meadow of the monastery garden for a picnic.
