Stage 1 "Havel Cycle Route": Ankershagen - Fürstenberg/Havel

The first stage of the Havel Cycle Path leads over 62 kilometres from the source of the Havel in Ankershagen/Pieverstorf to Fürstenberg/Havel. The trail leads through the Mecklenburg Lake District and offers many bathing opportunities along the way. Via Wesenberg you reach the state of Brandenburg at Großmenow and shortly afterwards the water town of Fürstenberg/Havel.

Start: Havelquelle (Ankershagen/Pieversdorf) / Finish: Fürstenberg / Havel

Getting there: From Berlin main station take the RE5 (Rostock) to Kratzeburg. From there it is about 10 km to the Havelquelle in the opposite direction. Alternatively, take the IC to Waren (Müritz) station. From there about 35 km to Havelquelle, also signposted.

Departure: From Fürstenberg / Havel by RE5 (Wünsdorf-Waldstadt) to Berlin main station (approx. 1h).

Route: Kratzeburg (to the source via Pieversdorf in the opposite direction, approx. 10Km), Blankenförde, Kakeldütt, Useriner Mühle, Wesenberg, Neu Canow, Strasen, Großmenow, Steinförde, Fürstenberg / Havel

Trail condition / route development: In the Brandenburg district of Oberhavel, between Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the border with Berlin, the trails are in excellent condition and lead exclusively on asphalt cycle paths or quiet side roads.
