Bredereiche lock

The lock in Bredereiche, a district of Fürstenberg/Havel, is part of the Upper Havel Waterway. With the construction of the first lock at this location in 1737, the village developed into a shipping village. Between 1950 and 1952, a new lock was built parallel to the old one. Today, a hydroelectric power station is operated in place of the old lock. Since the Upper Havel Waterway is no longer used by cargo ships and only rarely by passenger ships, it has become a popular spot for water tourists. The lock is a self-service lock.

Location: Upper Havel Waterway (OHW) km 47.85

Chamber length: 53.50 m, chamber width: 6.50 m, drop height: 2.29 m

The lock is controlled by the Zehdenick monitoring centre.
